Personal letters written to Miss Gordon of Cleveland, Ohio, by relatives and friends, containing information on the social history of the period. Occasional letters from Sarah Fairchild, Harriet D. Sterling (Mrs. John W.), and others at Madison, Wisconsin, contain information about early Madison history and social life. An 1849 letter written by Gordon refers to prominent Madison resident Lucius Fairchild.
